I just saw a few screenshots of IE9 beta, FF4beta, the new Opera and Chrome and they look indeed all the same.
They all have removed some bars and buttons that are not often used. What stays are the tabs, the address bar and the buttons for previous/next page, cancel loading, refresh and home.
But can't we do most of that with the current Lunascape browser?
My Lunascape has most of the bars removed too.
Personally I do not like if Lunascape copies the UI all the other browsers have or will have. If Lunascape wants to gain market share it must be different - different in a way that makes it better than them. It must be even more comfortable to use and more stable than all the others. And if it is an eyecatcher then Lunascape gets the point.
Lunascape's multi-engine capability is one step into the right direction. No other browser vendor has copied that so far. That makes Lunascape unique.
If you want to replace the buttons for more stylish ones then some users will be happy, of course. But I think the most important point that makes an excellent browser is when it is (nearly) bug free. Even in this forum there are a lot of bug descriptions - some are fixed others are not. And if you read other forums that talk about Lunascape you can see that many users don't switch to Lunascape because of the number of unsolved problems/bugs.
Every few weeks there is a new Lunascape release available. Good, if the bugs are fixed, but bad for its reputation. The user thinks, the more releases there are, the more bugs must be in the software. Even if it's not the case.
If there is a common consensus of removing bars and buttons to have more space for the browsing area, then Lunascape should build on this.
- Why not adding an option to auto-hide the buttons/symbols and tabs?
Whenever you move the mouse cursor on top of the browsing area the buttons/tabs bar drops down and a few seconds after the mouse cursor has moved outside this bar, it fades out again. - What about a minimalistic control area?
Lunascape now has a lot of bars enabled when installed for the first time. Why not enabling just the address bar and symbol bar? The user can then enable more bars if needed. - What about the possibility to move the bars to the left, the right or to the bottom?
Newer screens are 16:9 and no longer 4:3. But it is difficult to read text on long horizontal lines. If the bars are placed on the left or right, the browsing window gets smaller and any text displayed in there is easier to read.
These are just a few thoughts, but not wishes.
Any critics or support?
