Since the release of Lunascape ver.6.4.1, we’ve received some similar issue reports from users. They are to have either 1) an error massage “Failed to load data. Data may be corrupted. This is an invalid XML” after an installation/update or 2) the Gecko download or loading hangs or 3) both. Many of you may not have these issues because they only occur to a certain environment, which runs Windows XP SP3. However, this does not mean all Windows XP SP3 users, who use Lunascape 6.4.1 or later, encounter these issues neither… it’s only some of them.

Our development team has been working on the fix for a while and figured those issues occur to the Lunascape with Gecko 3.6 series. We will be fixing them in a Lunascape 6.5 official release, but meanwhile, we have decided to release Lunascpae 6.4.4 with Gecko 3.5 series to compensate for the issues.

Lunascpae 6.4.4 has Gecko engine that is equivalent to Firefox 3.5.17. If you prefer to stay using Gecko 3.6 series, you may choose not to update to this version, or you can download a Gecko 3.6.14 for Lunascape 6.4.4 from the Luna Labs.

Thanks to many positive feedback on the 6.5 beta. We’ve decided to move the schedule forward and to release Lunascape 6.4.1, which includes most of the new features introduced in the beta, today.

As many of you know, one of the new features is Online Bookmarks that allow you to bring your bookmarks with your iPhone or iPad. You can get access to your Online Bookmarks via iLunascape anytime. Also, you can sync your Online Bookmarks with the Firefox and from both ends using the Firefox Sync or the Lunascape’s Online Sync account. You can learn more on what you can do with the Online Bookmarks in the old entry.

The next major change is a much-anticipated upgrade of the Gecko engine to the Firefox 3.6 series. The 6.4.1 has Gecko version 1.9.2.13 that corresponds to the Firefox version 3.6.13. As a result, we’re temporary closing the ‘choose your own Gecko’ project on the Luna Labs and recommend users to use the upgraded Gecko (Firefox 3.6 series) with Lunascape.

Another change is in the Lunascape Settings dialogue. Some of the options are shuffled around and re-categorized in such a way that hopefully makes more sense to users, for now…. We plan to refresh the appearance and layout of the dialogue in a future release, so your feedback are welcome.

Last but not least, the Lunascape 6.4.1 is one of the first official release that includes translations made by volunteers. Yes, that’s right. Your contributions have made this version more complete! Thank you so much to those volunteers who has made it happen. We’ll create a thank you page on our Web site and list names of the contributors to show our appreciation. Translations made through the Lunascape Localizer will be kept reflected in every releases of Lunascape (the official global version and Europe language versions) from now on. We’ve also released an update of iLunascape Lite for iPhone (ver. 1.1.2) today. It has the Firefox Sync 1.6 support, so incompatibility between different versions is addressed, and you should have no issue accessing to your Online Bookmarks.

We’re glad to announce that you can now use Online Bookmarks with iLunascape for iPad. In case if you’re not familiar with, the Online Bookmarks is one of the new iLunascape features, which allows you to view and access to your Favorites/Bookmarks lists on Lunascape (desktop) browser and Firefox browser via iLunascape. This feature is first made available to the iLunascape Lite for iPhone ver. 1.0.0, and now we’re extending the feature to the iLunascape for iPad ver.1.3.0. You’ll need to have an account to access to your Online Bookmarks. You can create one from Lunascape (desktop) browser 6.5 Beta version using the Online Sync feature or Firefox browser through Firefox Sync add-on/feature. Try it yourself and make your Bookmarks portable.

We’ve also added ‘Save Image’ options and Bookmarklet support along with several bug fixes.

We have another big news today. Drumroll, please… Our iPhone version is out! It’s called “iLunascape Lite for iPhone.” It’s clean, intuitive, and, fast.

This is an addition to our new browser product family, iLunascape, that is specifically designed for “i” devices. With the iPhone version, we bring desktop-style tabbed browsing to the Smartphone with a unique InReach interface, taking into account its portability and small screen area constraints.

As we introduced with the iPad version, InReach interface is our take on the optimal UI on such portable devices. Tabs and menus are clustered down near the bottom of the screen so that you can easily navigate while naturally holding the devices.

For the iPhone, we added a few more things to make your browsing experience right. One is “thumb slide” capability, allowing you to switch between tabs easily and quickly in the small screen. You can also hide tab, title, and address bars to further maximize the limited screen real estate. Another one is Online Bookmarks feature, which enables you to access your bookmarks on Lunascape and Firefox desktop browsers from your iPhone.

As we announced earlier today, this Online Bookmarks feature is being built-in for v 6.5 and you can test it with the released beta. While the sync is both ways between desktop browsers, this initial iPhone version can only access (i.e. no edits from iPhone side) to uploaded bookmarks. We will make it really “sync” shortly and that feature will come to the iPad version as well, so please stay tuned.

When we introduced iPad version this summer, it jumped to #1 in the Free Utility category overnight on the App Store in the US, and ranked #1 in the Free Overall category in five countries (Japan, France, Spain, Israel, and Taiwan). We certainly hope to exceed that with iPhone version, but we just have to cross our fingers for now…

Lunascape ver.6.5 Beta is now available for download and to take it out for a spin! This beta 1 gives you a preview of two main features that we’re planning to build in; Online Bookmarks and Quick Dial. Your feedback is indispensable to brush them up and get us ready to finalize the product. We’re planning to release beta 2 before its official release, so please give us as much feedback as you can to improve the quality of our services.

Bookmarks Becomes Portable

This enables you to access to your bookmarks from anywhere with the Internet connection. You can sync Online bookmarks between Firefox and Lunascape browsers, or access it through Apple’s iPhone, iPad(*1) and iPod touch using iLunascape browser on-the-go.

Step 1: Install Lunascape 6.5 Beta

• Download the latest Lunascape 6.5 Beta.

Step 2: Sync or Setup your Online Bookmarks

• From the Menu Bar, go to View > Sidebars > Online Bookmarks and click Settings to create or log into an account. You can view, edit and add Online Bookmarks and sync.

Step 3: Access to your Online Bookmarks

• From iLunascape
  • Tap Bookmarks > Online > Connect to log in and access to your Online Bookmarks.
• From Firefox
  • Use the Firefox Sync to log in and access to your Online Bookmarks.

Tips:

You can …

• Sync your Online Bookmarks from both ends using Firefox Sync account or Online Sync account
  • Log in with your Firefox Sync account if you already have one, or create a new account through Lunascape Online Sync to log in
• Add pages to your Online Bookmarks from;
  • Click [Add] button on the Online Bookmarks Sidebar
  • Drag & drop from the Address bar
• Copy your Favorites lists to Online Bookmarks by drag & drop pages from the Favorites list
  • Existing Favorites and this new Online Bookmarks are two different things
• Edit your Online Bookmarks from Lunascape and/or Firefox browser
  • Online Bookmarks can’t be edited from the current version of iLunascape Lite for iPhone

Fast Access to Your Favorite Sites

You can now visually manage your favorite sites with Quick Dial. It shows the most visited pages and recently closed tabs, and you can choose and decide what to keep on this view.

Step 1: Launch Lunascape 6.5 Beta

• If you haven’t, download and install the latest Lunascape 6.5 Beta.

Step 2: View your Quick Dial

• From the Menu bar, go to View > Sidebars > Settings and select Quick Dial under the Add-on folder in the Sidebar.

Tips:

You can …

• Lock pages to or delete pages from the Quick Dial view
• Set it as a default page to show when opening a new tab (from Lunascape Settings > General > General Settings, select Open Quick Dial under the Home Page section)
• Set it as a default page to start at Lunascape browser start up (from Lunascape Settings > General > General Settings, select Open Quick Dial under the Startup section)
